Battery Do's & Don'ts

Do’s:-

1. Always store the battery in cool and covered areas.
2. Read the installation manual before starting Installation of the batteries.
3. Keep the battery away from sparks, heat source or fire.
4. Charge the battery once in 3 months, in case of the battery kept unused or ideal.
5. If you found any battery is damage before installation, stop the installation and inform mfg.
6. If you found any dust is accumulates on the battery, clean the batteries with dry cloth.
7. Use proper sized cables along with proper plugs and crimping during installation
8. Set the charging parameters as per maintenance manual.
9. Charge the batteries immediately after discharge as per specification
10. All terminal bolts have to be tightened with spring washers and apply torque. All bolts tightness to be checked once in every 6 months.
11. Record the currents & voltages once in a month in the prescribed format or register.
12. Maintain the same AH & brand for a bank
13. Provide proper isolation between battery and battery rack.

Don'ts:-

1. Do not keep the battery in direct sunlight, dust or moist place.
2. Do not add any acid or DM water in case of SMF battery.
3. Do not tamper the vent plugs
4. Do not over tight/under tight the terminal bolts which may be cause of terminal breakage or fire due to loose contact.
5. Do not allow any metal object rest on the battery which may cause for short circuit.
6. Don’t mix with different capacities, different make, different types (VRLA, Flooded/ Tubular batteries)s and different manufactures batteries in the circuit.
7. No cell tapping will be allowed during the service life.
8. Don’t use underrating cables for connecting the battery.
9. Never install any type of battery in a completely sealed container. Sufficient ventilation to be provided for air circulation.
10. Don’t allow discharged battery, for more than 12 hours in idle condition.
